In the tense years following the LA riots, a host of Cali rap acts were infusing their music with revolutionary messages, none more poignant than The Coup and their classic debut Kill My Landlord. Not much has changed since 1993, The Coup remain convinced of their hard-funk style. I’ll admit, I’d forgotten to check them for socials, for the longest time, but as the record states: group frontman Boots Riley is still cooking highly relevant material, maybe more so than ever given the social climate. Their latest single “OYAHYTT” will act as the lead single for Boots’ motion picture debut Sorry To Bother You, named after the group’s 2012 concept album.
