Curren$y – Canal St Boys

Curreny

Listen to the latest from Curren$y, “Canal St Boys.” It’s not often that Spitta touches on political or social matters, he generally stays in his lane, and his cult-like following loves him for that. Nonetheless he spoke up recently on police brutality with his record “Good Cop Bad Cop” last week. This week he’s back to his usual ish, paying homage to NOLA on the record “Canal St Boys.”

As of late, we’ve been hearing Curren$y over a lot of old school-sampled or inspired production, abounding in jazzy, laidback vibes. Thus “Canal St Boys” is a change of pace– it’s sleek and modern, taking from trap music with momentary sirens and 808s. It’s reminiscent more of his Pilot Talk 2 (“Michael Knight”) era than any of the (many) mixtapes he’s put out lately. It’s dope though, no complaints. You should appreciate the Hot Spitta over some harder production and more energetic (for him) raps to match.
