Fergie Ft. Rick Ross – Hungry

After a protracted absence from releasing any new music, the Dutchess herself, Fergie, is back with two new singles today (August 24th). Her pop-rap collaboration with Nicki Minaj called “You Already Know” is a definite throwback to the days when Fergie Ferg used to be one of the women who was running the music game, with songs like “Fergalicious” and “London Bridge.” The retro sample from Rob Base and DJ EZ Rock is sure to get people shaking what they can, while the radio airplay is sure to be high for most mainstream and urban stations as well. A more curious creative choice is her link-up with Rick Ross for a track called “Hungry.”

Recalling religious hymns or chants with the opening vocals, we hear Ross being a low-key hype man for the record, speaking with a much lower energy than most of his fans might be used to. It’s a move that was most likely aimed at keeping the cacophonous blend of Fergie’s vocals at the front of people’s aural experience, however the song is slow to get out of the gate as a result. You’d expect something with both of the artists on it to be a banger of sorts, but the intro to the collaboration is anything but.
