For the past twenty years, hundreds of albums have been released on a yearly basis, I reckon.

But only very few of those ever become hits. Some become hits, and gain buzz for some time. Then a fraction of those become classics.

Of that fraction, then there is another little fraction of albums that are all hits, no misses. Now, that’s very rare. We only ever get that every once in a while.

An album where all the songs on it bang and there is no single downtime? It’s gotta be rare, in fact. But, no doubt, once or twice, we’ve been lucky to experience those. And, it’s almost always magical.

This list is a continuation of the first article that featured albums like “Made in Lagos” and Asa‘s “Asa.” You can check out that first part here.

Anyway, without further ado, here are ten Nigerian contemporary albums that have no bad songs in them at all. Which of these is your favorite?

10. Olamide — UY Scuti

When Olamide pulled up with a 10-track predominantly pop album in 2021 as a follow-up to “Carpe Diem,” the instant reaction was that he’d not be able to recreate the magic on his 10th studio album.

While we can’t say “UY Scuti” is objectively better than “Carpe Diem,” we can say for sure that “UY Scuti” has no single bad song. That’s a classic in my books.

9. Davido — A Good Time

Arguably the best of Davido’s three studio albums, “A Good Time” was released in 2019 to generally positive reviews and above all, it was a major hit.

Although very long, the album is gold. One of the best projects we’ve had in the last decade really, and that’s something. Even “A Better Time” ain’t better.

8. Kizz Daniel — Barnabas

An EP, yes. But there’s not been a neat project like this in a while and so, it makes the list.

The 7-track EP BARNABAS that houses bops like “Lie” and “Pour Me Water” is still the number one album in the country even after months of release. Kizz Daniel got a real winner in this one.

7. Ayra Starr — 19 & Dangerous

This is a very unusual one, I know. But the thing about Ayra Starr’s debut is that even if you don’t like it because it’s not your type of music, you can’t deny the energy that’s on every single song on that album.

19 & Dangerous” simply does not have one bad song, and in 2022, believe me, that’s something!

6. Mayorkun — The Mayor of Lagos

Mayorkun’s latest album is okay. But when he released his debut in 2018, now that was something better. Really better.

The Mayor of Lagos” is a jam from the intro to the last track on the LP. They don’t make albums like that anymore, seriously.

5. Wizkid — Ayo

Fans and critics are split on this one. Some think this is arguably Wizkid’s magnum opus, while some think it was generally underwhelming.

Whether you think it’s his best or his worst doesn’t really change the fact that if you were Wizkid, you wouldn’t remove a single song from that album!

4. 2Face — Face 2 Face

2Face left Planatashun Boyz and became iconic and it was this album “Face 2 Face” that made it possible.

You see, there’s not many albums in Africa currently that match this 2Face solo debut. It’s legendary, to say the least.

3. Brymo — Merchant, Dealers, and Slaves

Brymo’s sophomore album that some critics say is his most important project and a classic. “Merchant, Dealers, Slaves” is short, concise, eclectic, and absolutely beautiful. No skips.

2. WandeCoal — Mushin 2 Mo’hits

WandeCoal and Don Jazzy together created the album that birthed contemporary pop music in Nigeria.

Mushin 2 Mohits” definitely inspired the Wizkid’s, the Davido’s, and all the ones that came after them. A classic.

1. Burna Boy — Outside

Here is an album not so many people talk about, but this was Burna Boy at his absolute best. Burna will never get that peak back, ever.

Outside,” is in the top three of the albums released in this past decade, no doubt. It’s evergreen, too. And it’s got no bad song!
